The Isle Of Man

Red with the Three Legs of Man emblem (triskelion), in the center; the three legs are joined at the thigh and bent at the knee; in order to have the toes pointing clockwise on both sides of the flag, a two-sided emblem is used; the flag is based on the coat-of-arms of the last recognized Norse King of Mann, Magnus III (r. 1252-1265); the triskelion has its roots in an early Celtic sun symbol

The Isle Of Man- adopt a country assignment

The Island of Man is a country located in Western Europe, island in the Irish Sea, between Great Britain and Ireland. It is a small island with approximately 76,512 (July 2010 est.)people. The main language spoken on the Isle of Man is English, with most of it`s citizens being Christian. It`s GDP per capita(PPP) is $35,000 (2005 est.) with its total GDP being $2.719 billion (2005 est.) Their legal system simply follows the laws of England, England being a parliamentary democracy.

The Isle of Man is only 1% agriculture, 13% industry and 86% services with their employment. Because of The Isle of Man`s overcast and cloudy weather it is not able to rely on agriculture as a steady source of income. Their small population also makes it difficult for them to become an industrial country; hence why they are 86% focused on services as means for employment and financial gain. In terms of their labor force, only 2% of citizens are involved in tourism, which is indicative that it is not on peoples top 10 places to go to list.

The Isle of Man`s primary labour force stems from careers in scientific and professional services, and banking and finance, both are 18% of the population. Because the country`s population is more adherent to both career categories, categories that are more ``up and coming`` and lead to new advancements as well they are good investments as careers, the country is able to make more money.

The Isle of Man has no transnational disputes or any sort of issue with another country. This is a positive thing. However, there are only 5 out of 1000 people that immigrate to the Isle of Man which could possibly leave the country less multicultural. The life expectancy for both men and women averages at 78.82 years old. It also has a 1.5% unemployment rate. This is another positive of the trait.

My World View

WHO ARE YOU?
Who am I? I can't briefly summon my entire life in one short blog. I guess you could say I'm just one small piece of the puzzle. One tiny, little, minuscule collaboration of cells molded together to create a simple - yet complex...me. And what significance do I ha
ve in this world? My actions, thoughts, and words impact everyone through chains of events. Every single person on the planet Earth impacts the world in some way or another, be it positive or negative or neither.

But to get less philosophical, I'm just a little girl living life to the fullest. I was born in South Africa on May 27th. Since that day, I've travelled to over 35 countries and lived enough life for 10 people. I'm extre
mely outgoing, crazy, impulsive, easily forgiving....to name a few. I have a huge heart and I care for everybody. I'm the kind of person that would take a bullet for a stranger... and I'm not just saying that! But Rob told me to keep this short so I'm going to st
op the "about me" here.
WHERE ARE YOU ON THE POLIT
ICAL SPECTRUM?
My political views are soley based on what I think is right, and are not conforming nor are they easily altered. If I were to place myself on the political spectrum, I'd say I'd be all the way at the end of the left side. I am way
more liberal then conservative. Some people refer to me as an anarchist simply because I have lost all faith in the government. The government was intitiated for representing, protecting, and policing the people. They now have total control of our lives, endorse c
apitalism and are indeed...out to git da money.

HOW DO YOU BELIEVE THE PROBLEMS OF THE WORLD SHOULD BE RESOLVED?
This question is certainly a difficult one because A) it's hard to identify all of the world's problems, and everyone has a different opinions about the world's 'problems'. B) No problem can be resolved with one simple step. But, I do believe that with the legalization of Marijuana many of the world's problems will be solved. Canada's and other nations debt will substa
ntially decrease, alcoholism will decrease, and the world will quite simply
become a much happier place :)

WHAT IS ONE MAJOR WORLD IS
SUE THAT MAKES YOU ANGRY?
There are hundreds of world issues that make me angry. The one that always seems to stick out in my mind is the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The IMF loan money to LDC's and charge extremely high and unreasonable intrest. The IMF offered Haiti money after the earthquake in 2008, but then expected all of the money BACK wit
h INTREST!

The IMF also takes control of countries. They can decided what money goes where. The IMF can lower job minimum wages and even take money from social services (which is a common trend).

And I guess I'm done talking.

Jimi Hendrix

"The story of life is quicker then the blink of an eye, the story of love is hello, goodbye."

James Marshall "Jimi Hendrix" is considered to be one of the greatest electric guitarists in the rock genre ever. He was extremely influential in the 1960s as he constantly thought of new ways expand his musical abilities. Hendrix was also one of the first to experiment with stereo-phonics and phasing effects when producing his music. Hendrix had a very bluesy vibe to his music. He often claimed that he was influenced by blues artists such as B.B King, Howlin' Wolf, and Muddy Waters. He incorporated many different types of music together to create his own unique sound. he would blend funk, jazz, rock and blues together to create musical masterpieces.
Jii Hendrix was born November 27th 1942 in Seattle, Washington. His father was involved with the U.S military and was stationed in Oklahoma. His mother, Lucille Hendrix, gave birth to him at the age of 17. Mama Hendrix developed a drinkingproblem after her divorce with Jimi's father, James "Al" Hendrix. Her heavy drinking lead to her eventual death in 1958 because the state of her liver had caused her spleen to rupture. Hendrix grew up at a shy, introverted child, but expressed his emotions with music. He bought his first guitar for $5 at the age of 15 from a friend of his fathers. The newly bought acoustic guitar replaced the broomstick he had been pretending to play guitar with and even a ukulele that his father found whilst cleaning the garage. What makes Hendrix unique, is that he taught himself to play guitar through watching others and getting tips from more experience guitarists. During the summer of 1959, Jimi's father bought him a Supra Ozark, but unfortunately there was no amplifier for it.

Hendrix's first band was a un-named band that held practice sessions in the basement of a Synagogue. He was shortly kicked out of the band for wild guitar playing and improvisation. He joined two other unsuccessful bands, but he stood out because he played left-handed with a right-handed guitar. Hendrix got in trouble with the law twice for riding in a stolen car. He was given the choice of going to prison for 2 years, or enlisting in the army. In 1961 he chose to join the army. He was very shortly discharged because he was a subpar soldier; often falling asleep on the job. He claimed that he had to be discharged because of a broken ankle acquired. Another theory is that Hendrix claimed homosexuality and said that he had fallen in love with another soldier and was then discharged.

In 1966, after a string of failed attempts to form a band, Hendrix meet then-girlfriend of Rolling Stone's Keith Richards. She introduced him to The Animal's bassist, Chas Chandler, who wanted to start producing and managing. Chas Chandler was certain that with Hendrix's single, "Hey Joe" Hendrix would become a legend and have an immediate hit single. Chas Chandler brought Hendrix to London, England, where he would join the musical talent Cream during one of their performances. Eric Clapton (Cream's lead vocalist) remained friends with Hendrix until the day he died.

He wrote 3 songs which all became instant hits; "A Wind Cries Mary", "The Hendrix Chord", "Stone Free". Hendrix acquired a certain stage persona that captivated audiences around the world. He learnt to play guitar with his teeth and behind his back and would even go so far as to set his guitar on fire during a concert and then smashing it to bits.

Jimi Hendrix died early September 18th 1970. There are many conspiracies as well as contradictions to what actually happened to cause Hendrix's death. His girlfriend at the time, Monika Dannemann, claimed that Hendrix had taken 9 of her very strong German sleep aid pills. The autopsy states that Hendrix had completely drowned himself in red wine. He had vomited so much red wine, that there was at least a half a bottle of regurgitated red wine in his hair alone. There are some theories that Hendrix just wanted out of his managing label contract, while others wonder if it was the 60's, the fame, and the fortune that all got to him?

Segregation in the 1950's

It is without a doubt that there was some serious problems all over the world with discrimation based on race and ethnicity for a long period of time But let's look at the 1950's.

Jim Crow laws...miscegenation...Brown vs....Board of education... Rosa Parks...Little Rock 9...The Civil Rights Act (1957)...Emmett Till.. To name a few examples of African-American discrimination and adversity. The discrimination wasn't only focused entirely on African-Americans, but on any other race. Chinese people were discriminated during the CPR construction, Aboriginal children were put in Residential Schools and members of Aboriginal tribes were often treated extremely poor by the so-called "superior" whites.

So. What were some of the laws (Jim Crow Laws) that the black's had to abide and wholly adhere too?

Pool and Billiard Rooms: It shall be unlawful for a negro and white person to play together or in company with each other at any game of pool or billiards. Alabama

Toilet Facilities, Male: Every employer of white or negro males shall provide for such white or negro males reasonably accessible and separate toilet facilities. Alabama

Intermarriage: The marriage of a person of Caucasian blood with a Negro, Mongolian, Malay, or Hindu shall be null and void. Arizona
Intermarriage: All marriages between a white person and a negro, or between a white person and a person of negro descent to the fourth generation inclusive, are hereby forever prohibited. Florida

Cohabitation: Any negro man and white woman, or any white man and negro woman, who are not married to each other, who shall habitually live in and occupy in the nighttime the same room shall each be punished by imprisonment not exceeding twelve (12) months, or by fine not exceeding five hundred ($500.00) dollars. Florid

Education: The schools for white children and the schools for negro children shall be conducted separately. Florida

And of course there were some unspoken laws. For example, a black man or woman could not speak in "an inappropriate" way to a member of the white community or he/she could be punished in unethical and unjust ways. An example of an unspoken law that was broken was in the case of Emmett Till.

Emmett Till was a fourteen year old boy visiting his uncle in Money, Mississippi. He went to a store to buy a chocolate bar and when leaving made the fatal mistake of saying "see you later baby", to the woman at the counter. The woman's husband and his brother followed Till home and asked his uncle if they could speak to him. They captured him and drove him to a discrete part of town. The men beat him brutally and shot him in the head. When Emmett's body was found, his mother requested an open-casket funeral to show the brutality Emmett faced. His eyed had been gouged out, and he was tied to a 70lbs fan with barbed wire and then thrown into a river. The men who did this too him were found innocent, even though they pleaded guilty

Is it still like this? Your first thought would be no. Or at least you hope it would be. Although more rare, there are definetly quiet lynchings and white supremists as well as a Neo-Nazi clan and Neo-Klu Klux Klan. Racism is certainly still a conflict we must overcome, but I believe that it will never be fully abolished. It's hard to predict the future (whether we will overcome racism as well as predjudisms) without looking at the past...and I for one cannot predicted the ever-changing tentative minds of the Human Being.

Rock N Roll: The Black Music of the 50's

It was something new, something scary, something that wasn't what anyone was used too. It was called, Rock and Roll. By definition it is simply popular music with a strong beat and simple lyrics. So why was it so frightening, and importantly, so significant in the 50's?

Simple.

Parents, teachers, politicians, strived to find "the perfect society", or, Pleasantville. The 50's came soon after the end of WW2; people just wanted a safe, secure, and typical society thats younger generation would turn into world leaders, lawyers, and doctors. Basically, they just suoght after the norm, what they were used too. Rock and Roll was different. It was fast, unusually energetic, and...atypical. The 50's adults originally thought it was a phase that was going to pass, and tried to think nothing of it. But, it caught on; Fast. This was sobering.

Teenagers at any decade or even any other period in time seek rebellion. For some it is more obvious rebellion, for others it was simply a vague thought that comes and goes, but rebellion was something that created the seeds of the revolutionary 60's, and even today.

Rock and Roll was something that teenagers couldn't help but love. It was fresh, hip, and and emotional outlet for hormonal teenagers who had been forced to live their lives in conformity and security. It didn't take long to become a huge sensation among the younger generations of kids in the 50's. Rock legends became idols, music became worshipped, teens began to find themeselves, this, in my opinion, was one of the main reasons the 60's was such rebellious period in time and such a revolutionary decade that changed the way North America, and soon after, the rest of the world, works.
